Complying with national and global electronic signature regulations involves more than just binding a signature to a document. A signature must also be capable of review and authentication to prove that the signer did indeed agree to abide by the enclosed terms of an agreement. With handwritten signatures, this is accomplished through close forensic examination by expert handwriting analysts. However, most electronic signature systems offer a fax- or photo-quality signature record with no data about the signature’s biometric characteristics, or claim to capture biometric data but lack the means to authenticate it.

Any commercial transaction is only valid if it can be upheld in a court of law, should a dispute arise. If a forensic expert cannot attribute the signature on a given document to a specifi c person or entity, the contract will be unenforceable. This is no different in the electronic world, which is why the patented Topaz eSignature system captures pen events to create an original electronic signature. When used with our  patented SigAnalyze software tools and training, forensic experts can examine the eSignature’s biometric characteristics and render conclusive opinions about signature authenticity.

SigAnalyze is a patented signature software tool that allows forensic examiners to analyze electronic signatures side-by-side using the same techniques they would employ in examining paper-based signatures. In addition to supplying a signature’s appearance, SigAnalyze displays objective information about the speed, timing, and order of each individual stroke and point. By comparing these and other forensic signature arameters to a person’s signature samples on a point-bypoint and overall basis, it can be determined whether or not a given electronic signature record is authentic or a forgery.
